I wonder how many of you like me, keep a stash of ready made cards that you can dip into if an unexpected occasion arises? Well I must have quite a lot put away, but I find myself all to often creating something more personal. Dipping into my stash today I found this cute little card, that I have never even used. The stamp image is by Whiff of Joy and it was of those stamps that I bought purely on a whim, just because I liked it at the time.

The border was made with a Martha Stewart border punch.

Just thought it would be a change to look at my lesser known and used stamps. I hope you like it as much as I do.

Miniature sewing notes book.

I thought today I would have a change from my normal card designs and show you a little sewing notebook I made for a friend. The spine is made using "stab binding" with thread and added beads for embellishment. The front cover shows a variation of sewing related things, like die cut scissors, buttons, felt flowers and a lady in a hat stamp image from Sparklensprinkle The inside cover, front and back, leaves room to place small material swatches and has a place to add different measurements you might need. I hope you like it, I had fun making it!

Continuing a theme

Just to continue the last few days theme of making cards that are plain and simple, I thought I would include a nice verse from CC Stampers. I mounted the Sugar Nellies little girl image on to a label die cut made on my Grand Calibur machine, and then just "squared off " the design by drawing lines with a green Permapaque marker. The final touches were to add two paper punched flowers and a stick on tiny butterfly.

Dry Embossed simple card

Still maintaining my experiments with clean and simple designs, here is my offering for today. I used pale green card and one of my Cuttlebug dry embossing folders to create the background. What a surprise to see how well it showed up in the scan! I also used the same colour card to punch three flowers. A contrasting pre printed paper was used to punch the circles behind the flowers, and the smaller flowers,which were glued in the centres. A small strip of trimmed white card was edged with a metallic Permapaque marker pen, and the words with love stamp, from Inca, was stamped using a Black Stazon dye ink pad. The final touch was a pink and white sheer ribbon tied with a bow around the cards left hand fold.
The ribbon is from Really Reasonable Ribbons. I just adore ribbons from this company. What a gorgeous collection they have, and they will ship overseas which is a big plus point!

Lots of white space

I rather like this simple card, that leaves lots of white space. It looks clean and crisp and draws the eye to the words of friendship. All the images were applied using Marvy markers directly to the rubber and using the "breath on and stamp" technique. The stamps are by Posh Impressions and the lovely green spotted ribbon is by Really Reasonable Ribbons

Here is another simple design following a sketch from the on line class, "Clean and simple card making".I adapted Kristina Werners sketch slightly by using a Martha Stewart border "thanks" punch, instead of a die cut. The word stamp is from Sparklensprinkle and the beautiful pink dotted ribbon is fromReally Reasonable Ribbons.

I always feel somewhat challenged when I try to create a clean and simple card.Making and designing a card without any matting, layers, die cuts, ribbons and embellishments seem to be nearly impossible . Who could ever imagine that I would deliberate for so long over making a simple white card? So I decided to take a look at an on line class at Clean and simple Card Making. Designer Kristina Werner had created a sketch like the one to the left, and the card above is my interpretation of it.The square in the middle of the card, was created just by masking an area and then stamping the image around the border it left. I edged the four borders of this square card with a Permapaque red marker.All the images I decided to use were from Sparklensprinkle
This was only day one of this class, and as I am way behind! There will be a few more card designs coming up later for you to take a look at.

Two more publications

Wow how lucky can I get? The publications this year are rolling in. When I say this year, of course I mean designs that were created in 2011, it can take many months for them to reach the printed stage. When I made this particular card which was published in the March 2012 edition of Scrap and Stamp Arts, I just loved it. Everything seemed to come together so easily. The beautiful collage watch and butter fly image is by Sparklensprinkle, the background is a dry embossing folder put through my Grand Calibur machine and stippled with a Memories turquoise ink pad. The words were computer generated.

The second card published was just a quick and simple design, using a preprinted card stock.Again I used my Grand Calibur to make two sizes of label diecuts. The stamp image was from Rubbernecker and the ribbon fromReally Reasonable Ribbon

For a long time , in fact more years than I care to remember, the American rubber stamping magazine Vamp Stamp News, has been my all time favourite
reading material.
I so admire the Editor Nancie Waterman! She has continued to produce this quality magazine entirely on her own since the very beginning in 1993. I began stamping in 1997, so I feel as if we have both come a long way since then.
Her January edition of Vamp Stamp News was a special delight to me as it not only published three of my cards, but also the ones using my two favourite stamp companies the American company Sparklensprinkle and the British company .Crafty Individuals

This first one uses the Crafty Individuals stamp image of two angels reading, and the title I gave it was "The three months of winter".
It also includes the word stamp from Sparklensprinkle," One kind word, can warm three winter months.

Card number two chosen to be published in Vamp Stamp News was a fun Christmas card using a snowman image from Sparklensprinkle. I mounted this onto a Spellbinders scalloped rectangle using my Grand Calibur machine to die cut the shape. The Grand Calibur was also used to make the Swiss dot dry embossed silver metallic card I added to the right hand side of the design.

Design number three chosen for publication, also used a flowered border stamp from Sparklensprinkle. This card size is one of my favourites right now. It measures 8 and 1/4 inches by 3inches making for a very slim elegant card. I love using the Permapaque markers to outline my borders, and they are certainly something I find myself reaching for time and time again. The dragonfly embellishment from Thailand was gifted to me by a friend. Well I hope you have enjoyed my small offerings, and don't forget to go and take a look at the Vamp Stamp News website, or better still buy the magazine. You certainly will not be disappointed.

Although it is not a holiday that we celebrate here in the UK, I would nether the less like to wish all my American friends a very Happy Thanksgiving.

Over the years I have been thankful and extremely grateful for the many good friendships I have made over the years. Like all crafters they have been kind and giving, and generous with their praise and appreciation of my work.

This card I made for all those friends.
I am thinking of you during this season of thanks.

A special birthday card

I just wanted to share this special birthday card with you. It was created to celebrate my grand daughters special day earlier this month
.
Blue is one her favourite colours, although for some reason it is not one I often use myself.
There is not a lot of rubber stamping on it, other than a circular birthday greeting from Sparklensprinkle

The two lovely photographic images are from my favourite British company http://www.craftyindividuals.co.uk/

Some small pieces of background card were created using a dry embossed cuttlebug folder,
and I skimmed the surface with a pale turquoise dye ink pad. I just love that folder of cog wheels and watch parts! The two different colours of borders were made using Martha Stewart border punches, and I finished the design off by adding a butterfly and gem stud embellishment.

Get well soon cards

I would just like to thank all those lovely people who have been kind enough to send me Get Well cards during these last few weeks.
Believe me when you are ill, and maybe feeling emotionally low, there is nothing to cheer the spirits more than a card from one of my crafty friends.
If they are handmade, then, not only does it help me know friends are thinking about me, but it often helps my muse with a few new ideas from these friendly and talented people.
So, today I thought I had better make myself a few to add to my stash. After all you never know when one might be needed.

Well at least that is what my son calls it. Certainly a lot easier to explain to the grand children instead of saying I need an cardiac arterial version.

I have been missing in action now for about a month, a week of that was spent in the cardiac unit at one of our larger hospitals. I don't usually feel down in the dumps, but the medication to slow my fast, irregular heartbeats as left me without much energy, not even for stamping.

Today brought me a much needed surprise.The arrival of a complimentary copy of the Just Cards Steam punk magazine pointed to the fact that I probably had one of my designs published.

"Steam punk" was never going to be an easy call especially as I wanted to use one of the images from the company I design for, namely Sparklensprinkle

However I decided to do a "Tongue in cheek" creation with a nod towards a fun and cartoon character using Dare Devil 1515-308G a like able Sparklensprinkle image.
They must have liked it because there it was for all to see.!

You might well be even asking WHAT IS STEAMPUNK. Here is a sort of explaination LOL
I believe that Steampunk is more than just brass and watchparts. It's finding a way to combine the past and the future in an aesthetic pleasing yet still punkish way. It's living a life that looks old-fashioned, yet speaks to the future. It's taking the detritus of our modern technological society and remaking it into useful things. Think of items and images that combine the scientific romanticism of the Victorians with our real present and imagined future.

A more "normal" type of card used with the same image was this!

I am having so much fun making this size of card. It is 8.5 x 3 inches and is a British A5 size card stock folded vertically. Previously it had been difficult to find an envelope to fit this size exactly with out making it myself. However I have now found a supplier and immediately bought a pack of 50! I just think it makes a defined elegant card. This Asian themed design was made using a dotted leaf border image from http://www.sparklensprinkle.com Don't you think it is such a striking flower spray, even though I made this particular design as a bereavement card?

A few days a go I was asked to make some samples for a new baby store that had opened in my home town.
I made nine different designs, and this is one of them.
My ten grandchildren are now growing up fast, and the youngest is eight. Making baby cards as been a thing of the past for a few years now,so it felt good to try out something new.
Lucky me, the owner liked 8 of those I submitted and has ordered 65 cards from me.
I love design work, but have never sold my cards, other than for an odd commission from friends!
So this will be a new venture into the unknown. The biggest problem is always submitting a price point, that will hopefully cover your costs and come someway to meeting the time you spend on producing them.
However a new challenge is always exciting, and at least it will enable me to buy a few more stamping goodies!!!!

A special card for a special friend

I know collage work is not every bodies favourite, but certainly for me, it is something I love.
Many years ago I had a great teacher in America who was a wonderful tutor and a fabulous artist. She taught me that collage work is all about the interpretation of a story.
In other words what appears to be just a mixture of components on a card, should be in fact be something that means memories or life's experiences to you and the receiver.
The card I choose to make today was for a very special long term friend. We met in Florida through our mutual love of crafting, and in particular, rubber stamping. We correspond on a regular basis and we know much about each others lives and families. You will see the picture I used on the card, shows two girls who are probably friends. I love my garden and the birds that I see there each and every day, hence the use of birds and flowers. Our correspondence is shown by the background paper which incorporates writing and birds eggs amongst other things. Perhaps most symbolic is the reference to a ticket and the cancellation stamps and a compass.
You see I used to travel a lot to see my dear friend, but now bad health prevents me doing that, and I miss her dreadfully. There is a tiny saying in the bottom left hand corner that says it all!
"just really glad you are my friend"

Wedding day card

My step daughter made a request for me to make a wedding day card for a friend of hers. So I just thought I would scan it in for you to take a look at, before it went in the post.
Her request was for something to do with horses!!
I did look for a horse and carriage image but did not see anything I liked. However I thought this horseshoe image with the kitties might be appropriate. What do you think?

I love the pale colours I used to go with these solid stamps from http://sparklensprinkle.com. As most of my little band of followers know, I adore the sweet and small garden birds that visit my garden. We have just returned from taking four of our grand daughters on holiday, and the first thing we had to do on arriving home was to fill all our bird feeders. There might be plenty insects and bugs about, but many of our feathered visitors have a liking for the premium sun flowers hearts we feed them. Well after having the children for a week and keeping their school holidays filled with fun activities, both my husband and I are ready to put our feet up and unwind. Tomorrow I will be back in my craft room making a start on forthcoming publication submissions, so until a later date....

Wow I have been lucky again to be published in Vamp Stamp News Augusts gallery! The card on the left is one of two that Nancie Waterman the Editor of http://vampstampnews.com was gracious enough to include in her galleries. The second one I absolutely love, but unfortunately I do not have a good scan of that one. The reason is that I am absolutely hopeless with a camera, and hence my work is usually scanned in not photographed. This means if the design has any prominent embellishments the scan is blurry. My music designed card included some wonderful flowers from Wild Orchids UK. Of course all the stamp images used were from sparklensprinkle as most of you know I have been on their design team for years....not saying how many, but Margaret and I go back a LONG time.

Whilst not being one to "blow my own trumpet" I have decided to try and post any cards that I have had published.
This particular card was submitted as part of a challenge Nancie Waterman over at Vamp Stamp News was hosting.

Oldies but goodies

As much as I love show casing my Sparklensprinkle designs, I find it difficult to post them on my blog. Why?
Well, often this is because I send many of my creative cards in for possible publication. To do this, the designs have not to have been seen on websites, or published before.

This is a quick card I made using one of my old Magenta stamps. What do they say about oldies being "oldies but goodies"! I must have had this rubber stamp for about ten years and often used it in my workshops.
Stamping on glossy paper is not always easy and requires carefully use of the correct ink. I love black and pink together, so very eye catching don't you think?

After a hectic boating holiday with my husband, son, daughter in law and four grand children, I came home tired out but certainly ready to disappear into my craft room.
I always find that stamping relieves any tension I might have, and as I needed to make a birthday card for my sister in a hurry, I could not wait to ink up my stamps.
This card design was the end product. I like it and I think she might like it too.

Hi Guys, Hope you like this card as much as I do. It was published in the July edition of the Scrap and Stamp Arts magazine.
The stamp image and words are from the Sparklensprinkle Stamp Set 425 - Spring Swirl. I also used my new Grand Calibur embossing and cutting machine to create the Scalloped squares in blue and white card stock. Two different types of decorative paper and some gorgeous green ribbon from Reasonable Ribbon. I also had five cards published in the latest edition of Just Cards so you could say I was doubly pleased.
Well tomorrow I leave for a few days holiday with my grandchildren. For the first time ever they are going to experience staying on a canal boat. Needless to say this Nana will be very anxious and will make sure they have their life jackets on at all times. Plenty of games and crafting materials are packed in case we have anymore of the British rain. But fingers crossed we are hoping for sunshine and some idealic days of cruising. See you soon.

Oh wow it has been a while!

Oh my goodness I cannot believe how long it has been since I last wrote up my blog, or even posted a photograph, or a new card design. It is not that I have not been busy I have, but combined with some gorgeous weather here in the UK it also means I have been finding some time to sit in my garden. Guess what it rained today!! It is lovely though to see again all the trees in the various shades of green. The bluebells have arrived and the cherry and apple blossom has been and gone, blown away by a strong breeze that blew up. For any of you that follow my the work I do as a designer for Sparklensprinkle you will be happy to hear that a BLOG HOP is scheduled for Thursday of next week 12th May and as always there will be rubber stamping goodies to win. Today's card includes rubber stamps from two companies. The little girl is one of Sarah Kayes illustrations, but the birthday greetings and the flower border are both from Sparklensprinkle. Back from holiday

I quite like this simple but effective card, as it could be used for so many occasions, just by changing the appropriate words inside.
We are back from our holidays and although we had a lovely time, I am still not experiencing the best of health.
However, I have to be grateful for a wonderful husband and a supportive medical team. Although some what restricted with walking these days( we had to use a wheelchair on holiday),at least I have full use of my hands and eyes, and of course that allows me to follow my love of crafting.
This weekend my eldest grand daughter leaves for university and we are so proud of her.
This card is dedicated just to her!

She was the inspiration to MY dreams and encouraged me through all my early years, but unfortunately she never lived to see me become the first woman Trade Union Officer in my profession. She also actively encouraged me with my love of art and the written word, that was later to bring me some small recognition as a designer and writer.

A birthday card for Jane

A special friend of mine will be 50 soon.
I cannot believe she is even that age. For years not only has she been like a daughter to me, but she has also been one of the best of friends.
Jane has always loved bicycles....well at least pictures of them!
So I decided to make her a card showing a patch work of bicycles, sewing being a craft she also enjoys. She makes the most beautiful wall hanging, ones that take hours of time and patience.
I do hope she likes my small offering. At least it was made with lots of love.

I so appreciate my small band of followers, and apologise for the lack of posts recently.
I had a very bad attack of gaestro problems........goodness knows why, but it made me feel like death.
Now I am ready to bounce back. The fact that we are now into the month of March does so much for me emotionally. I hate the bad weather and the cold winter months here in the UK, more so because of my progressing osteo arthritis.
However once March arrives, heralding the start of spring, and I see the snowdrops and shoots of daffodils in my garden, not to mention a small touch of sunshine, I can then feel a lift to my soul.
William Wordsworth a well known poet was born here in the Lake District and his glorious poem of daffodils always springs to mind around this time of year.

Well it has been a long painful process, but I finally feel I am getting to grips with my new laptop.
At last my scanner and printer are working, so now you have something to look at.
This is just a hasty birthday card I made for one of the little ones in our family. Did you guess it was for a little girl as it is very pink?
I actually quite like the duck stamps that are part of a set from Crafters Companion.
Tomorrow I am looking forward to a full day of crafting and cannot wait to try some new stamps out.

Hi there to all my friends who follow my blog.
I am sorry I have not been around recently, but we are still having problems with my computer.
For nearly a week I have not been able to access or send any emails, and now I find that on Windows 7, I cannot get my printer/scanner to scan in my new designs. Not only that yahoo is not letting me access my group sites, so I have had no communication there either!!!
Still frustration at my computer does mean I am spending more time in my craft room, so eventually you will have lots to see.
I will keep on trying to sort things out, but if you read this I would appreciate an email from some of my friends and design team colleagues.

Well 2011 is finally here. I know it is already the 4th of January but my husband and I have been having a laid back quiet holiday and the computer as not been a high priority! I have however been beavering around in my stamp room, or should I say extending the mess to my dining room table. I still need to reorganise my craft room after the Christmas deluge. I have been making a few designs for Sparklensprinkle and I thought this Asian influenced card had a very appropriate saying for this time of year. With it comes my very best wishes to you all for a happy, healthy and peaceful New Year and also every blessing that life can bring.

I can make a huge sigh of relief knowing that all my Christmas cards and packages have been made and mailed out.
If I have forgotten anyone then I am truly sorry. I have a large family and many friends and acquaintances. Knowing when to stop is difficult. It is not so much the creative part of card making ( I love that) it is the large amount of cash it takes to send the cards to long distance and overseas friends.
My DH is on duty at our hospital all over the Christmas holidays, so tomorrow we start our celebratory weekend by travelling to visit my 91 year old father and step mom. I shall meet my sisters and their husbands there, along with my two step children. On Sunday evening we shall have dinner with my husbands brothers and their wives at a nice country inn and weather permitting we shall be home on Monday.
I hope we have a safe journey as the weather forecast has promised lots of the white stuff!!

I have been making Christmas cards for more years than I care to remember.
Now not, only do I make them for my husband and I , but also at the request of many other members of my family.
My son and his wife live in Scotland with their four daughters, and motorbikes are a big love of their lives.
I remember buying this unmounted stamp on one of my trips to Florida, but I cannot for the life of me remember who made it. The sack on Santa's motorbike, has over the years, had many personalised names on it, not to mention a variety of goodies ties to the back.
Still it always makes for a fun card.

Just how fast is Christmas creeping up on us?
Thank goodness one of the forums I belong to persuade me at the beginning of 2010, to make 5 cards each month, towards THIS Christmas.
At least I am not under as much pressure as usual. In fact the cards I make, and send to acquaintances, have already been posted and all I have to do is make very personal ones for special friends.
Here is one I made this weekend especially for a friend who loves angels.
Black and white themed art work is also a favourite of mine , so I combined the two. Hope you like it?

Christmas ornament swap

Over at the Stamp Shack we had a challenge swap to make a Christmas Tree ornament and mail it to one of our overseas members. Mindful of the postal charges that all start adding up enormously at this time of year, I made a fairly light weight one using card stock, charms and beads. I was quite pleased how it turned out. Now to pop it in the mail!

Golf challenge!

Whilst making many cards, it is not often I find one too challenging!
However when Michael came home and said that one of the nurses had asked him if I would make a card for her brother in laws birthday, and it needed to be golf theme..........
This made me really get my thinking cap on. I did not know the man, so that added to my difficulty. Should I make a humorous one, a classic one,I just did not know.

A few hours later I came up with these designs. Now which one will be the choice I don't know, but at least there is two to choose from.
I personally like collage designed cards, but they are not a choice for everyone.
Cartoon caricatures are usually a favourite with most people, and Snoopy is quite cute, so I shall just have to wait and see. Whichever is the choice the alternative will be put to good use for my brother in laws birthday!

October is the 13th Birthday of Sparklensprinkle,a rubber stamping company from Florida, and I am sure when Margaret Myers started production way back in 1997 she did not envisage the success it has become today.
My congratulations to Margaret (and her husband George, who must be one of the best back up supporters of the business), and to all her superb design team who I am happy to call my friends.

It is that time of year, when the sandals I wear all summer have to go back into the wardrobe, and I start to hunt for a new comfortable pair of shoes. As everyone knows I love to stamp in my slippers, and much prefer them to anything else.
However after making this particular card, it took my memories back to the days of my youth when high heel shoes were all the rage. Not of course that they would have been any good today to walk on polished oak floors or laminated flooring LOL
My goodness what we endured to be in the height of fashion, but my words didn't they look good?

Holidays in Devon

Devon like many of our counties here in England has beautiful scenery, and I love it when we rent a place that gives us gorgeous views of coast and tidal estuaries, complete with sailing boats.With an eye for color I enjoy the beautiful sunsets and the effect of the rolling mist on the hills in the early morning light. My husband managed to get some good hours of walking on the coastal path whilst I admired the views in their many wonderful shades of light and dark.
Of course we enjoyed the Cornish food too, and had the opportunity to dine at quaint inns and part take of the lovely fresh fish caught locally. The crab was gorgeous, the cream scones glorious and the Devon fudge made with clotted cream was to die for.

We saw very pretty cottages centuries old with thatched roofs, churches with magnificent Norman and Gothic architecture, attended an Elizabethan market and took tours of the local art galleries.
We celebrated our wedding anniversary whilst on holiday and my DH bought me a beautiful handmade Cornish necklace, so you could say that we had a truly wonderful time.
Now we have returned home we need to get back into our regular routine. Michael returns to his duties tomorrow and I am longing to get back in my stamp room and create!

Back from holiday on a special day

We have just returned home from our Devon holiday, but more of that on another day.

The 2nd of October 2010 is special in the rubber stamping world, as it is dedicated to world card making day. Knowing I would not get home in time to make a new design actually on THE day, this autumnal one was made before I left....but I am posting it today LOL.
This design used a background made from applying various shades of ink directly to white cardstock ( pad to paper starting with lighter colors first) and using a circular mask to give the impression of a moon.
Over the background, using Black Stazon ink, I stamped a Sparklensprinkle image Yard Flowers 0880-268B.
After coloring the flowers, I applied some SparklenSprinkle glitter across the moon and mounted the finished design on to copper colored paper.
Two hinged brads were used as decoration as indeed was some complimenting leaf vellum paper and orange sheer orangandza ribbon. I hope you like it.

I have been away to visit my father and missed communicating with one of my dearest friends on her birthday. Although I had sent her a card, I always like to make a telephone call on THE day, but this year it was not possible. So, my intention was to call her this evening when DH had left for night duty, but she beat me to it and called me this afternoon!
Oh how I wished we lived nearer, I do enjoy having a chat. At one time I could have looked forward to taking a holiday with her in her beautiful home, but now I no longer feel I could take another long air flight. Still I do have very happy memories of us touring the stamp stores and stamping together and I am sure we shall always be friends. Here is my belated best wishes for a very Happy Birthday Sue. Love and miss you.

As I promised in a previous post, I have uploaded another of the cards I had published in the Fall rubber stamping issue of Just Cards magazine.
This one has an image that I bought from Funky Kits here in the UK. The card itself was very quick to make as I used a preprinted card from Papermania. These are ideal when time is limited, and they come in a variety of seasonal designs. I think this one was from a Retro set. Don't you just love the ticket stub with the word "Trust" on it? I got these as a RAK but I do not know where I can obtain anymore.I would be grateful if someone knows where they can be found....please let me know.

Today I was delighted to receive my Fall magazine edition of Just Cards, and found that I had FOUR card designs published.
Two of my design colleagues with SparklenSprinkle design team also had one card each in there.Congratulations Barbara and Brenda. I hope you feel as elated as I do.

This card is one of the ones I had published using SNS images. The other three were designs used from other companies that I will post at a later date.
Must dash, more design work to complete before my DH and I depart for our autumnal holiday in Devon. There is a rented cottage waiting for us there, and we shall be celebrating our wedding anniversary whilst we are away. Could not think of a nicer place to spend it. All I need now is the blessing of lovely warm sunny weather. That could be a forlorn hope at this time of year, but one can wish.........

At the begining of the year, one of the girls over at the Stamp Shack put out a challenge to make 5 Christmas cards every month.
I joined, thinking what a great idea to be prepared with pre-designed and all ready made cards without having a last minute panic. I must admit to being a little behind due to the summer holidays, but tonight I decided to add a few more cards to my growing stash. I am even thinking of addressing them in October, now THAT is what I call being organised.
Todays design used both image and words from Lilliofthevalley. The photo corner punch was from Stampin Up and the icicle punch from Martha Stewart. The patterned cardstock was from PaperMania.

It looks like autumn is on its way.

We are well into September already and the trees are starting to tell me that autumn is on its way. The leaves on some of our trees are beginning to turn color,and the nights are getting darker earlier. My rubber stamping too is looking for autumnal colors to work with. Usually I am not very good at working with browns oranges and reds, but I rather like the card I made this afternoon.
Todays card design using flowers and leaf images from SparklenSprinkle, makes good use of the resist technique for the background.The main image is cut out and centred on Spellbinders Number 10 tags.I hope you like it?

The first of September already and we are now heading for autumn. Where ever did the summer go? We certainly have not had much sunshine here in the UK.
Our challenge for this month over at Sparklensprinkle was to use autumn colors in our design projects, using images we already had.
Here is one of mine,just hope you like it. The background was made using a leaf stamp and chocolate glitter embossing powder.

Some of my close friends will have been well aware of the problems we have had in our family recently.
Where ever you are in the world, thank you for your caring thoughts and many prayers.

Just a few hours ago I recieved a phone call to say that my sister did NOT have cancer. Praise to the Lord.
We have been very worried since a MRI and CT scan had been showing a dark spot on her spine. Now that blood tests, additional xrays and urinary tests have been completed, the consultant has given her a 99.9% assurance that she does NOT have cancer. They think it is a buldging disc lying on top of a sciatic nerve that has given her such a lot of pain. Because she has been a heavy smoker all her adult life, that in itself gave major cause for concern.

On a lighter note the hand made card posted today shows you the art of paper weaving used as a background. The image I used was one of Funky Kits "Georgeous girls" and the words are from a Stampin Up set.

In my last message I was talking about one of my endearing American friendships, and following on from that I receieved an email from my other friend in Illinois.
The card I have posted today reminds me of both of them, as they both adore cats.
I used to have cats and dogs, infact a large collection over the years of asorted family pets, but since marrying my DH we have never kept any animals or birds. That is because unfortunately he is an asmatic who is allergic to fur and feathers. Such pity as I know he as often thought we should have a dog!

Well roll on tomorrow. A day off duty for Michael and a day out having lunch with family for both of us. Hope we get some sun!!

What a lovely surprise I had yesterday!!

A dear friend from Naples in Florida USA, phoned just to have a chat with me. We have been friends for many years after "meeting" on a rubber stamping forum many years ago. It is a long story, but I have visited her and her husband many times and I love them both to bits. My days of flying and traveling the world has gone, but this dear friendship has stood the test of time.
In the early days when rubber stamping was still relatively new in the UK, ,my friends acted as my personal shoppers and consultants. Not only did I visit their lovely home and appreciate their unreserved hospitality, but we also had fun taking numerous classes together, and buying lots of goodies in the stamping stores.
We still exchange regular cards to each other,and phone each other on special holidays, but boy do I miss her and wish she lived next door!

No stamping, just paper crafts

This week has been all about the anxiously awaited exam results for both school and sixth form college students. The worry is over and they can now decide their futures.
Proud parents are digging in their pockets for "rewards" and crafters like myself are making appropriate cards. The one I am showing you today was fast and simple, with no rubber stamping involved. All it consisted of was cardstock , paper, (a foam hand and winners medal found in a childrens art section of a hobby store.
Why not try making one of these "winners cards" with you children or grandchildren. After all they could be used for many different occassions!

A labour of love

Yesterday I told you about my grand daughters success in passing her A level exams.
Tonight's session in my craft room was a labour of love, to make her a congratulatory card.
It is not the type of card I would usually make, but like all young girls she loves a bit of sparkle and bling. She would be embarrassed if I made something too sentimental,as she is sure to want to show it to her friends.
I did not think I would have an image that would be suitable, but God Bless my friends at The Stamp Shack. Over these last few months we have had a couple of image swaps, and I found this fun one amongst some of the stash they had sent me.
I thought the occasion warranted an A4 sized card so it gave me plenty of blank surface to work with. I customised it with her name, added the fun image and some bling and finally added some small embellishments too.
My daughter had bought her some longed for expensive shoes, so I added some shoes and a handbag charm. A long side that I added a little silver heart, that was my sentiment of love for her. I hope she likes it!!

I am so very proud of my grand daughter Zoe Ann.
A phone call this evening told us that she had past all her A level exams. She did have an unconditional acceptance to Preston University on the results of previous GSC exam results, but she has now added higher qualifications in Law, Social Studies, general Knowledge and English Literature to her qualifications.

Today's card is one I have made for my sister who is not too well just now, and I wanted her to know how much we love her.
I used Sparklensprinkle words and clip art for this design.

Blanket tags for the troops

I promised I would show you the tags I was making for a request put out by my dear friend Nancy from The Stamp Shack.
Nancy has asked her fellow Shackies for help in creating tags that are to be added to blankets for US troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan. The blankets are hand made to send to injured troops, and I am in awe of the ladies that can sew them.
As I don't sew, I was more than willing to create some tags to be attached to them and I know a super effort has been made by alot of my friends on this forum.

Yesterday I probably told you, that weather permitting, Michael and I would be having a day out.
Where did we go? Well,the first weekend in September my DH and his walking club friends have a few days away socialising and walking, and this year it is to be in Alston. As it is only about an hour away from where we live in the Lake District, we decided to take a trip there and have lunch at the hotel they are going to stay in.
High up in the North Pennines, Alston claims to be the highest market settlement in England, being about 1000 feet above sea level. It is also remote, about 20 miles from the nearest town. From every direction Alston is approached over a broad, heather-cladded Pennine landscape which has been designated an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. Set on the upper reaches of the River South Tyne, it lies within the Eden district of Cumbria.

Alston has a steep cobbled main street with a distinctive market cross, and many stone buildings dating from the 17th Century. It is a bustling town, with a reputation for delicious locally made specialities such as Cumberland Mustard and various cheeses.
After lunch and a chat with the genial barman we had a quick look around the town and then decided to visit a lovely garden centre on the way home.
It is such an amazing place with gorgeous flowers, shrubs and plants, many of them quite unusual. Here can also be found some really interesting garden statues and sculptures.... only wish I could afford them. Many of them cost hundreds of pounds. Oh well I can dream, and we did have a nice day out.

This month my assignment from them, as one of their team designers was to make two designs using Stamp Set 379

My first one was a square card using images With this ring STAMP # 2087-379A
and Wedding Ring #2085-379B and Celestial Glitter G1031
Additional products were White Hammered Cardstock, two types of decorative paper and two scalloped circle diecuts. Embellishments I used were stick on gem stones,lilac flowers and a matching brad.

My second design was a card suitable for a Bridal Shower.
With this design I started again with a white square card which I applied "faux" stitching to around all 4 borders using a pin pricker and a silver gel pen, (quite effective for someone like me that cannot sew!
The images I used were Bridal Shower 2088-379B and Floral Wedding Dress 2093-379M
Additional products were Silver and blue cardstock, a white scalloped rectanglar die cut, and scalloped scissors ( to create the tag).
The embellishments I used was stick on gem stones and pearls,a silver heart shaped brad and a stick on corner.

Just two ideas to get you started that I hope you enjoy.

Different styles of rubber stamping

I wanted to bring you something a little different today, hence the picture of one of my collage designs. People that know me, will be aware of my love for small garden birds, and you often find these are featured in my card designs!
Yesterday I was dreaming of sunshine, and low and behold, this afternoon I managed to have two hours of sitting in my garden. There were lots of baby birds still flying about and I really enjoyed their funny antics whilst they were trying to balance on our bird feeders. We have had so much rain that our trees and shrubs have gone mad with growth and my DH spent quite some time pruning them back.
The hours spent in my craft room today saw me nearly completeing the tags I am doing for a swap over at the Stamp Shack. These are to be attatched to blankets made for injured troops in Afganistan. My effort is so small and I greatly admire all those ladies who can sew blankets for such a worthy cause. Me? It takes me forever to sew a button on ROFL

Waiting for some sun.

I have been waiting, not very patiently for some sunshine. We enjoyed a great week of weather when we visited Cornwall back in June, but since then it has done nothing but rain. Not good at all when schools out and we have had our grandchildren to visit.However we did manage to have lots of fun despite the wet rainy days, but thank goodness for Nana's craft room.
To my Scottish grandchildren, all girls by the way,it becomes Aladdin's cave and they cannot wait to get in there and uncover my stamping treasures. It is not a large room and I have to admit it is chock full when I manage to squeeze in there. When the girls take over for a few days, I have to revert to alternative means!
Yes this is when my digital stamps come into play.

A slight change of title

I have been having a few design layout problems with my old blog recently, which has meant I felt the need to create a new one.
Rather than try to realign all my old work, I decided to start afresh. So, if you followed my old blog and enjoyed what you saw,I would be delighted if you would join me on this one.
I made a conscious decision to try and post a card design, or photograph, with each post, here is my first contribution.
It is of our local parish church in Kendal, one of only a few that have 5 aisles!
